With DC’s Wonder Woman enjoying such a huge success it was only a matter of time that the Marvel Cinematic Universe released their own stand-alone female superhero movie with one of the original avengers. Female superhero movies have been gaining a lot of popularity in recent years. Captain Marvel was the first Marvel movie with a female superhero lead. This increased the anticipation for the much-awaited Black Widow standalone movie.
The Black Widow movie has been a long time coming. The character first appeared in Iron Man 2, and the anticipation for her own solo film has steadily increased ever since. Marvel finally released it this spring, with Scarlett Johansson reprising her role from the Avengers series. Everyone was excited to see how she would carry a film on her own – and it turns out that she can more than hold her own!
The story takes place after the events of Captain America Civil War. However, some of the scenes are from 1995 when Natasha Romanoff is just a young teen. The movie gives a backstory to Black Widow and shows how she became such a lethal force to match the competitiveness of other mighty avengers. The movie had it all, emotions, action, a great story, and all other things you would want to see in a great movie. The movie also has Red Guardian in it which is the Soviet equivalent of Captain America. He is a super-soldier who is like a father figure to Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. Even though he acted as a father as part of a mission, he actually cares for both of his girls. Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova. You also get to see that she is not the only one like her. There are other girls who are trained from a very young age to become spies and mercenaries for General Dreykov. He used to pick up young girls and take them to Red Room which was like a training center where young girls were turned into lethal assassins. That is where Natasha Romanoff turns into Black Widow and the rest is history. We all know that Scarlett Johansson is a great actor but she has shown that Black Widow is popular enough to carry an entire movie on her own.
The movie received positive reviews upon release. It was one of the most anticipated movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though Captain Marvel was released before Black Widow, the talks about a stand-alone Black Widow movie have been around for some time now. So the anticipation made the movie more special.
The movie also links to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe. The character of Yelena Belova will be seen in the Disney Plus series Hawkeye. Black Widow has been doing well financially since its release. It has been loved by both critics and fans alike.
